Mindfulness Training

Why Mindfulness Training?

Advances in scientific knowledge, improved communication systems, and technology have certainly brought us many benefits. But the complexity, over-stimulation, and pace of living in the modern world also places demands on us that can lead to exhaustion, sleeping problems, illness, depression, chronic pain, and unhappiness. These demands can also deprive us of the deeper connection with ourselves and our experiences that that we all need to enjoy and thrive in life. Mindfulness training teaches the practice of living in the present moment and nurturing a connection to every experience we have so that we don’t let our busy minds get the best of us.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)

MBSR uses the principles and practices developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Stress Reduction Clinic. MBSR draws upon our innate ability to nurture ourselves by developing clarity and insight, understanding the connection between body and mind, and creating space to simply breathe and be. For thirty years, research at the University of Massachusetts and other medical institutions indicates that MBSR has had a profound effect on participants, not only reducing their symptoms of stress-related illness, but showing them the way to live happier and healthier lives. Mindful Eating

In today's fast-paced world, many people are suffering due to an imbalanced relationship with food and eating behaviors that do not serve their highest good. Obesity, anorexia and bulimia are dramatic examples, but many people also suffer as a result of overeating, poor body image, the inability to accept the natural changes that come from aging, and the unrealistic and unhealthy expectations placed on us by our distorted cultural values. Many eating problems occur because we are largely unconscious of how we eat and what we put into our bodies.

Mindful eating, based on Jon Kabat-Zinn's ground-breaking work with Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, provides the power we all need to slow down, be present to our eating experiences, transform our relationship to food and eating, and consequently improve our overall health, body image, relationships and self-esteem. If you are ready to transform your relationship to food, feel better and be happier with your body and your life, contact Carol.

“Mindfulness is not something that you have to “get” or acquire. It is already within you—a deep internal resource available and patiently waiting to be reawakened and used in the service of learning, growing, and healing.”
- Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, HealthCare, and Society

In this very moment, no matter what your condition or situation, you have within you all the resources you need for growing, healing, and working with stress, pain, illness, and the everyday challenges you are facing. A growing body of scientific evidence supports the reality of a profound mind-body connection and now recognizes that learning and practicing mindfulness can positively affect your sense of health and wellbeing physically, mentally, and emotionally, while simultaneously offering you a means of discovering a deeper sense of ease and peace of mind.”
