Carol's search for the joy of her own true self-expression began in her teenage years when she graduated from high school early in order to earn money to travel abroad. Ten months and sixteen countries later, Carol returned with six dollars in her pocket and the conviction to remain true to the lessons of that experience. Her exposure to cultures with different value systems and interaction with people whose aspirations were uninhibited by the "norms" she grew up with, awakened Carol to the greater possibilities that life had to offer.
A deep desire to remain connected to people with different beliefs, values, and life-styles led to her work as flight attendant. For nearly ten years, she traveled extensively in North America and Europe, using her free time to complete an undergraduate degree in Applied Behavioral Science. During this time, she became aware of the influence addictive disorders had on her life and committed herself to her own healing, and subsequently felt a calling to work in the addiction field. While completing certification as an addiction counselor, she served as a non-paid Employee Assistance Counselor for the Association of Flight Attendants. In 1986, she left the airline industry and began serving as an Employee Assistance Counselor for Consolidated Rail Corporation. (Conrail)
While assisting employees at Conrail, her interest in holistic healing and the spiritual aspects of healing led her to complete a master's degree from the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology. Her progressive ideas and leadership in the Employee Assistance field resulted in invitations to serve on the adjunct faculty at National-Louis University and The School for New Learning at DePaul University, developing and teaching courses in Addiction, Employee Assistance, Human Resources, Transpersonal Psychology, Stress Management, and Wellness. Carol continues to serve at The School for New Learning, inspiring and being inspired by her students.
After six years in the corporate world, Carol's frustration with traditional approaches to addiction and other mental health problems led her to accept the position of Coordinator of Addiction Services at Old Orchard Psychiatric Hospital, where she supervised substance abuse education, intervention, and clinical services for children, adolescents, and adults, and developed the first in-patient treatment program for Co-Dependency in the state of Illinois. After two years, Carol's frustration with the limitations of regulatory commissions and the insurance industry led her to resign and establish a private counseling practice where she was free to incorporate spiritual healing methods that allowed people to heal not only their bodies and minds, but their hearts and spirits as well. In addition to working with individuals, she began serving as a consultant and trainer in both the employee assistance and addiction fields. Known for providing energetic and creative programs, her refreshing honesty and unique perspective are welcomed in corporate and organizational settings as well with individuals seeking a fuller, richer, more authentic life. For a list of her current workshops and presentations see Events.
Carol's on-going curiosity of the transpersonal realm and her own desire to be fully self-expressed continued to draw her to further healing, study, and personal development. Since 1996 she has completed training in numerous disciplines of bodywork (Massage Therapy, Reiki, yoga, fitness training, NIA), completed a seven year training program with Eupsychia Institute in psycho-spiritual integration, soul psychology, and Integrative Breathwork®, Studied and practiced meditation and more. Her personal growth and transformation resulted in the expansion and transcendence of HappyHealthyandWhole from a counseling practice to a resource center for education, training, and guidance in a variety of disciplines, all of which cultivate self-responsibility for wholeness and the attainment of a joy-filled conscious life.
While Carol has acquired tremendous knowledge about the process of growth and healing, her real strength is that she lives it. Her life is an example that anything is possible if we commit our energy to it; that passion and curiosity create the courage we need to risk new beliefs and behaviors, and that by turning within we can and do find the richly rewarding lives that are our God-given birthright. She has learned that our greatest victories are over ourselves; that balancing the inner and outer lives is the true path to wholeness, and that we cannot give to others that which we do not possess and practice ourselves.
Carol continues to use the lessons of her own humanity as grist for the mill of the spiritual growth and transformation that have led her to become evermore happy, healthy, and whole. As a teacher, trainer, and guide, she draws on all she has learned and continues to learn, in order to inspire, inform, and encourage her clients to discover it for themselves.
